- This could be a problem... We have a similar system for the Amiga that uses
- a sampler to load and the audio port to save, but Sean uses his own standard
- for the fastload so only data saved with *his* system can be ported. There
- is a reason for this.
-
- There is no generic way of hacking a fastload. There are just too many
- systems in use, Cyberload, Wildsave, Novaload (and the later Supernova's),
- Powerload, Pavloda et al that there is no set way to bust them.
-
- A method that does Nova can't touch Cyberload because the baud rate may be
- different (both Supernova and Cyberload have the option to vary the baud)
- and Cyberload actually pulls the data into RAM from the top down! Also,
- whilst its a doddle to get into say Novaload's boot code (no auto run)
- the protection on Cyberload and Powerload are intricate and a bit of a git
- to fiddle.
-
- The problem would be to write a utility to scan the tape, identify the loader
- being used, bust it (and with each of the loaders listed above having at
- least three variations this can be difficult) and then try to strip the
- data out and throw it to the hard disk. A tad nasty. And of course I have
- only listed six loaders up there, there are a myriad of others including
- some totally custom ones written only for one or two games.
